WordPress to WordPress Migration June 9, 2007

This morning has been a harrying time. I have had it on my hit list to migrate two legacy blogs to the wordpress.com site — these blogs have been in production since late 2004 and summer of 2005 respectively.
A) blog.unholycovenant.com (wordpress)
B) xaviermorgan.livejournal.com (livejournal)
I completed the first move this morning of Blog A. My web hoster, smarterlinux.com (aka hostmysite.com), did not have an XML exporter plug in, so I had to sift through hundreds of google searches and asinine blog entries to get a plug in that worked. However, I persevered. this was a wordpress to wordpress migration.
Alas, the legacy Massive Revolution content about gaming and narrative has migrated to Vicarious Universe at wordpress.com! The conversion went without a hitch. The plug-in and export worked. The import worked.
Step 1: I downloaded the wp-xmlmigrate plug
Step 2: FTP’d the plug in via FILEZILLA to my hosted blog – easy as dropping it into the plugin directory
Step 3: Activated the plug-in
Step 4: Ran the export from the Manage tab on my dashboard, and it saved the XML file local
Step 5: Imported the XML
Step 6: Danced a celebratory jig
The migration went very well, but I still need to find a way to migrate livejournal legacy content into the wordpress blog that I created to replace it. The only other problem I have with the migration is that all of the images that I have on my old blog stayed at the old hosting firm and the new blog points to the old images.
If anyone knows of a blog tool that will let me migrate my livejournal to wordpress, please let me know! That is still an unsolved challenge.
