Unified Communications is critical to the future of collaboration both within an organization and to the organization’s ability to communicate with customers, partners, and suppliers.
- In the early days of telecommunications, this was the domain of the telephone as the primary collaboration tool. In future, the Unified infrastructure is the future of collaboration.
- 6 of 10 phone calls in enterprises go to Voice Mail. By deploying enterprise Identity and Presence, you can communicate between people rather than devices.
- Microsoft Made a bet on SIP (session initiation protocol — wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Session_Initiation_Protocol )
- He believes that SIP is to UC as what HTTP was to the web revolution.
- Integrate today’s Silos to Unified Communications
- UC tools have taken hold in the consumer space, and they are slowly migrating to the enterprise

The summary: Unified Communications will be the core of individual, corporate, and community collaboration. Fragmenting this environment means fragmenting the collaboration and structure of an organization. In addition, these services — as they migrate from hardware enablement to server hosted products that integrate all aspects of communication — will be advertised as services that can be integrated into business processes.
